SACHEM Highlights Metal Acacs as Alternatives for Toxic Alkyl Tin Compounds

Austin, TX- August 19, 2009 – In its commitment to Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), SACHEM highlights its line of high purity, high precision Metal Acetylacetonates as alternatives for toxic organotin compounds in catalyst applications.

SACHEM’s Metal Acetylacetonates, in particular Zirconium (iv) Acetylacetonate, Zinc (ii) Acetylacetonate and Iron(iii) Acetylacetonate offer solid alternatives to organotin compounds and have several significant advantages. Dr. Armin Buhling, SACHEM Marketing Manager – Polymers says: “SACHEM’s Metal Acacs are very effective organotin catalyst alternatives. In addition to eliminating HSE issues, our Metal Acacs have higher through-put in existing reactor systems and require no induction time.”

Organotin compounds have come under increased scrutiny with regulatory agencies worldwide. Dibutyltin dilaurate and dibutyltin oxide are already classified as CMR-2 compounds in Europe. Tributyltin compounds are on a concept list for priority substances in surface water which affects the emission allowance level for these substances. Tributyltin(oxide) will be banned altogether (Commission of the European Communities: Proposal on Environmental Quality Standards and Water Policy, page 20).
