SACHEM Displacers Highlighted at PREP 2009

Keynote Industrial Case Studies and Poster Presentation demonstrate how displacement chromatography enables industry to better purify and analyze product purity through greater sensitivity and precision in identification of low abundance biomolecules.

Austin, TX – July 1, 2009 – SACHEM will be presenting at PREP 2009 – Philadelphia, the premier forum for discussion of state of the art chromatography processes and the latest developments in separation science and technology at the Loews Hotel in Philadelphia the week of July 19, 2009.

Dr. C. Pat McAtee, Senior Scientist at SACHEM will be presenting a poster titled, “The Use of Displacement Chromatography in 2D Analysis of Product Streams.”  The poster demonstrates the value of displacement chromatography in analyzing and identifying trace components. In addition, Dr. Tony Cano from Genentech will present his industrial case study on protein chromatography in his  keynote presentation titled, “Displacement Chromatography for the Purification and Enrichment of MAb Charge Variants: A Case Study.”

SACHEM’s IsolisTM displacers coupled with displacement chromatography removes 95% of main component interference without affinity resins or prior knowledge of component identity.  The impurities are concentrated (10-400X enrichment) in discrete zones between main component bands.
“These results are impressive and can be used in final lot analysis, Quality by Design (QbD) programs, process control and process optimization,” remarks Dr. C. Pat McAtee, Senior Scientist at SACHEM.  “Proof of product purity is critical to biopharmaceutical companies and regulatory agencies.  Now they have a technique that enables a significantly improved approach to this important challenge.”

In addition, SACHEM will offer “The Isolis™  Challenge” at the exhibition booth at PREP.  “The Isolis™ Challenge is a game that helps us illustrates the principals of displacement chromatography in a fun way,” explains Rosemary Hoffman, Director, Biotechnology Solutions Group. “The object of the game is to isolate impurities where the contestant is the “displacer” and separates all impurities from the main components.”\
