Meet Tommy:
Tommy has been with SACHEM for more than 18 years. He started as an operator in production and now - as Shift and Training Supervisor - is responsible for training new associates and coordinating refresher training sessions. Tommy represents SACHEM's culture in so many ways. He has come forth with innovative ideas, process improvement suggestions and supported SACHEM's strong HSEE culture. It is not only what Tommy does, but also how he approaches his work and his team. Tommy is easy-to-deal with and genuinely supports his fellow associates.
What are your main responsibilities? I presently work with the training department. For new SACHEM operators hired on, it takes almost two years to “know their way around.” In addition to training all operators, we are constantly reviewing our training procedures. As Shift Supervisor, I also coordinate maintenance work and collaborate with our warehouse to get equipment ready and product out of the door. Have your worked on different projects or held different positions at SACHEM? I am part of the Process Hazard Analysis Team. As part of this team, I make sure that drawings of a piece of equipment or process are correct. We identify potential hazards, analyze what could happen and implement necessary precautions to take. Can you describe your most interesting, professional challenge at SACHEM? My job as Shift Supervisor is constantly evolving and changing. Besides always focusing on cycle-time reduction, our most interesting challenge is to make high purity material with close to non-detectable metals. When I started working at SACHEM, we were producing material with metals detectable in the parts per billion range, now we are producing material in the parts per trillion range. I think that is quite an accomplishment. What are the best things about working at SACHEM? SACHEM is like a close-knit family and John (SACHEM President) is truly a caring man. All those years that I have worked here, this caring atmosphere has not changed. What do you do in your spare time? Spare time? Being in my 60s, I actually don’t have much spare time. Last year, my wife and I adopted our 4 and 8 year old grandchildren. They bring a lot of joy into our lives, but surely keep us busy. |
