TETRABUTYLAMMONIUM HYDROXIDE (TBAH) Print E-mail
Tetrabutylammonium Hydroxide is an effective base in a variety of reactions.

Tetrabutylammonium Hydroxide (TBAH) is an effective base in a variety of reactions.  One example is with Sonogashira couplings, which is the reaction between a terminal alkyne and an aryl or vinyl halide in the presence of a base.  This powerful synthetic reaction normally requires anhydrous and anaerobic conditions.

In this reaction, TBAH provided better yields of 84%.  KOH gave only a 3% yield.
