Instrument Technician- Cleburne, TX

The Instrument Technician provides instrument and electrical technical support to operation Associates for the safe and efficient operation of plant processes.  The person in this position also provides  technical skills and detailed drawings to the maintenance department and contractors for the continuous maintenance and improvement of existing processes.  He/she performs instrument and electrical aspects of design, from conceptual to final, detailed design of new control systems to meet higher production requirements, more stringent environmental regulations and ever-increasing product quality specifications and also provides supervision to electrical contractors.

Areas of Responsibility include:

 

  • Perform calculations for the sizing of process instruments such as modulating control valves, orifice plates, etc.
  • Provide expertise in the selection of replacement instruments, PLC equipment, and SCADA computers.
  • Assist maintenance department in troubleshooting electrical equipment and instrumentation problems.
  • Provide detailed Autocad drawings with parts list and descriptions of changes necessary for the improvement of the plant's operability.
  • Provide technical support to the maintenance department when requested.
  • Troubleshoot anomalous operations of processes or instruments and controls.
  • Answer operation Associate questions about process instruments and controls, concepts and procedures.
  • Write operating procedures for the use of new SCADA control installations.
  • Maintain and update the SCADA and control systems in all Sachem Americas facilities.
  • Generate conceptual control strategies to achieve objectives of new installations.
  • Perform all necessary valve sizing, orifice sizing, electrical loading and design calculations related to instrument installations.
  • Design control schemes and interlocks. Program control systems and components as needed. Develop all required SCADA operator control screens.
  • Generate and submit expenditure proposal for all instrumentation and electrical controls.
  • Specify and purchase all PLC control equipment and electrical materials of construction.
  • Design, in detail using Autocad drawings and parts list, special pieces of equipment to be built, for each project.
  • Generate detailed isometric piping, instrument, and electrical drawings. Drawings should be in AutoCAD format and archived in the engineering database.
  • Provide construction suggestions.
  • Complete ISA instrument specification sheets for each project.
  • Provide input for the writing of operating procedures and assist in the training of operators.
  • Follow requirements of the Process Safety Manual and specifications listed in the Engineering manual as applicable.
  • Track electrical hardware and instrumentation expenses and compare with estimate.


Chemical Operator - Austin, TX
We have a chemical operator's position available at our Austin, Texas facility.  This is a career job with expanding opportunities and competitive pay.  Varied and challenging responsibilities include the safe and timely production of chemical products.  This responsibility includes determining initial charge, charging the reactors, adjusting and packaging final product, and maintaining a clean and safe working environment.  Operation of utilities systems, unloading, and loading tasks and operation of the neutralization system are required.  Safety is top priority.

Job Requirements:

Charges, mixes and controls chemical production safely and to quality standards by performing the following duties:

  • Completes manufacturing process composed of steps such as moving material to the work area, set-up, handling and (un) loading raw materials, processing, sample record keeping and follow-up. Operates machinery, including computer process control equipment, to produce products according to safety and quality standards.
    Troubleshoots when required.
  • Follows and accurately completes batch sheets and other documentation to produce product efficiently and in compliance with standard operating procedures.
  • Records process variations.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment by performing housekeeping duties. Inspects components of the production cycle for compliance with standards.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, self-sufficiency and a high degree of competence in an operating area, or proficiency in more than one operating area with minimal supervision.
  • Participates on investigative teams and site group initiatives.
  • Successfully completes regulatory and job training requirements.
  • Understands and responsibly performs duties with attention to quality, safety and environmental matters. Items include; wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, recognizing, reporting and appropriately responding to hazards in the work area (spills/accidents/near misses), maintaining proper housekeeping at all times, properly labeling and storing chemicals, plus all other relevant job requirements.
  • Carries out duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines.
  • Complies with all company and site policies and procedures. Recognizes and reports unsafe conditions and procedures to supervisors.

Qualifications:
High school diploma or (GED) and ability to use HS algebra
Chemical or mechanical background preferred

Language Skills: 
Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Mathematical Skills: 
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
Elementary Algebra 
Compute rate, ratio, and percent. 
Calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, and volume.

Physical Requirements: 
Lift up to 50 pounds of materials, supplies, tools, fixtures and equipment from floor to elevated positions 
Reach and manipulate controls on equipment 
Perform work activities above ground level 
Perform work activities with production chemicals using required personal protective equipment
Perform outdoor work activities in all weather conditions

Other:
Mechanical knowledge of production equipment and processes.
